RESULTS BOOK AVAILABLE TO
DOWNLOAD
The final Results Book of the 2007 European Masters
Weightlifting Championships, which concluded Saturday
afternoon in Limassol, Cyprus, is now available in pdf
format for downloading from this website. The 33-page
booklet contains all 32 sessions of the competition
arranged by age group and wiehgt category. All new world and
European records are also marked on each individual
Protocol Sheet

TOP LIFTERS AWARDED
AT CLOSING CEREMONY
The top lifters of the 2007 European Masters
Weightlifting Championship were presented with special
awards at the Closing Ceremony of the competition,
Saturday evening in Limassol, Cyprus. In addition, the
Cyprus Weightlifting Federation presented commemorative
plaques and medals to the sponsors of the 2007 EMC, as
well as to all those who helped organise this event, and
gave special thanks to the volunteers. "We inally came
to the end of this event and I hope that we have
provided a satisfactory championship for the large
weightlifting Masters famil", said Damianos Hadjiamianou,
president of the Cyprus Weightlifting Federation in his
closing speech, where he gave special praise to Denise
Loizou, the Competition Manager of the event. Special
mention was made for the 3,000 schoolchildren who
attended the championships and got to experience the
sport from the inside.

SPECIAL AWARD FOR OLYMPIC
CHAMPION
A very special award was reserved for the guest of
honour at Saturday evening's Closing Ceremony of the
2007 European Masters Weightlifting Championships.
Cyprus Weightlifting Federation President, Damianos
Hadjidamianou, had invited Greece's Olympic and World
Champion, Valerios Leonidis for this Closing Ceremony
and presented him with a commemorative gift. "He is a
very close friend of Cyprus weightlifting and is always
ready to come down and give a helping hand whenever we
request it of him," said the CyWF president of Leonidis.
"I am very touched to be together with the living
legends of international weightlifting of older times,"
replied Leonidis. "Their presence here is testimony to
their love for the sport. I know first hand of the
efforts of the Cyprus Weightlifting Federation for the
development of the sport on the island and I am sure
that with the support of Mr. Hadjidamianou this effort
will bear fruit."

EMC 2007 CONCLUDES WITH
GERMAN DOMINATION
Germany dominated the 2007 European Masters
Weightlifting Championships, which concluded in Limassol,
Cyprus, Saturday afternoon. Germany topped the medals
table of the men's events, with 13 gold, 18 silver and
twelve bronze, for a total of 43. Russia was second with
nine gold, five silver and two bronze, for a total of
16. Austria finished third with seven gold, six silver
and three bronze, despite attempts to close in by France and the Ukraine, on the closing day at the "Spyros Kyprianou
Sports Centre" of Limassol. France clinched one
gold on Saturday morning and the Ukraine's
Dmytro Kravchenko
(born 1971) and Vasylii Martynyuk (born 1969; photo,
left) added
another two in the very last session of the
Championships, as each country finished with seven gold,
five silver and five bronze. It was the silver medal by
Austria's Edwald Fischer (born 1970) in the very last
session of the competition, the +105kg category of the
M1 age group, that proved the deciding factor for the
third place in the medals table.
A total of 17 world records and 55 European records have
been set throughout the duration of the 2007 EMC. Please

YET ANOTHER WORLD RECORD,
WITH ONE DAY TO GO
Finland's Jari Hirvonen (born 1963) added his own
world record to the already impressive of records set so
far in the 2007 European Masters Weightlifting
Championships, which conclude in Limassol, Cyprus,
Saturday. Hirvonen (photo, right) snatched 137.0kg in
his third attempt for the new world record--the 17th to
date in the competition. Fifty-five European records
have also been set in the Limassol event.
Germany had no more gold medals on Friday, the second to
last day of the championships, but heads the medals
table with a very comfortable lead of twelve gold, 17
silver and eleven bronze, for a total of forty medals. Russia remains second with nine
gold and Austria is third with six gold.
The 2007 EMC concludes Saturday, with the remaining
categories of the M1 age group, plus a Closing Ceremony
and banquet. Competition starts at 10:00 local time
(07:00 GMT).

LEONIDIS TO STAR IN CLOSING
CEREMONY
Greece's Olympic and World Champion, Valerios
Leonidis, will be the guest of honour at the Closing
Ceremony of the 2007 European Masters Weightlifting
Championhips, Saturday evening in Limassol, Cyprus. The
legendary 'battles' of Leonidis against Turkey's Naim
Suleimanoglu are considered some of the best in the
history of international weightlifting. Leonidis was
crowned European Champion in 1996 and won the gold medal
at the Atlanta Olympic Games a few months later, with a
new world record. Leonidis has a vast collection of
trophies, including eight World and European
championship medals.
The Closing Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 19:00
local time (16:00 GMT), at the "Spyros Kyprianou Sports
Centre", which has hosted the competition.

16th WORLD RECORD SET IN
EMC 2007
Yet another world record was set on Day 6 of the
2007 European Masters Weightlifting Championships, which
conclude Saturday in Limassol, Cyprus. Russia's Nikolay
Zholudev (born 1959) had a good lift of 121.0kg in his
third attempt at the snatch of the 85kg category in the
M3 age group for the new record--although in the total
he eventually finished second to Poland's
Miroslaw Zyckowski.
A total of 16 new world and 54 new European records have
been set thus far in Limassol in both the men's and

Germany added two more gold to their tally and continue
to lead the medals table, with twelve gold (plus 16
silver and ten bronze, for a total of 38). Russia
remains in second place with eight gold, followed by
Austria with five. France, the Ukraine and the Czech
Republic also have five gold, but are lower down in the
table, with fewer silver than Austria.
