ENTRANTS
FROM NAURU AND SOUTH AFRICA NAMED TOP LIFTERS
Nauru's Peter Yukio, winner of the men's senior 77kg
category and South Africa's Portia Vires, gold medallist
in the women's senior 48kg category. were named Top
Lifters of the 2008 Commonwealth Weightlifting
Championships, according to the Sinclair Results. M.
Hafifi Mansor of Malaysia was the top men's junior
lifter and Mona Pretorius of South Africa the top
women's junior athlete.

CYPRUS
TOPS MEN'S SENIOR TEAM CLASSIFICATION
Cyprus amassed 187 points and edged South Africa for
the top position in the men's Team Classification of the
2008 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships which
concluded in Limassol, Sunday. Malaysia topped the
classification in the men's junior division. South
Africa is at the top of the rankings in both the women's
senior and women's junior classifications.

SOUTH
AFRICA CLIMBS TO TOP OF MEDALS TABLE
With a total of six gold, four silver and two bronze
medals, South Africa secured the pole position of the
medals table at the 2008 Commonwealth Weightlifting
Championships, upon the conclusion of day 2 of the
three-day competition. The Championships wind down
Sunday, with the last session of the tournament--the
men's +105kg.

SOUTH
AFRICA SWEEPS WOMEN'S CATEGORIES
South Africa swept the women's categories of the
2008 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, Saturday
in Limassol, earning three gold medals in the senior
divisions and adding a fourth with the sole entrant in
the juniors, to climb to the top of the medals
standings.

MALAYSIA
LEADS MEDALS TABLE AFTER DAY 1
With a total of three gold, Malaysia leads the
medals table of the 2008 Commonwealth Weightlifting
Championships, at the completion of Day 1 of the
three-day competition. The host country of Cyprus is
second with two gold and two silver, followed by New
Zealand in third place with a single gold. Competition
continues Saturday in Limassol.

CYPRUS
EARNS GOLD IN JUNIOR CATEGORY
Dimitris Minasides, Cyprus' weightlifting Olympian,
won the gold medal of the men's junior 62kg category, on
the opening day of the 2008 Commonwealth Championships
in Limassol. Minasides' 248kg total also earned him a
silver medal in the men's senior division.

MALAYSIA
CLINCHES TWO GOLDS IN OPENING SESSION
Mohd Shafiq Ismail in the men's 56kg category and
Arrico Jumith in the men's senior 62kg category both won
gold medals, Friday, as the 2008 Commonwealth
Weightlifting Championships got underway in Limassol,
Cyprus.

COMPETITION SCHEDULE REVISED
The competition timetable of the 2008 Commonwealth
Weightlifting Championships has been modified, to take
into account the revised final entry lists of the
competition. There will now be a total of seven sessions
in the competition: Two on Friday, four on Saturday and
one on Sunday.

The start lists of the 2008 Commonwealth
Weightlifting Championships have been released,
following control by the competition officials. These
are subject to further modification, pending the arrival
of all delegations in Cyprus.

28-page booklet includes regulations for the
competition, the tentative entry lists, background

TENTATIVE ENTRIES
NOW AVAILABLE
The tentative Entry List for the 2008 Commonwealth
Weightlifting Championships is now available on this
website. A total of 104 lifters (81 men and 23 women)
have registered to take part in the competition in
Limassol, with India fielding by fat the largest team of
16 lifters. Nineteen countries will be represented at
the 2008 Commonwealth Championships.

PROVISIONAL
COMPETITION SCHEDULE RELEASED
A provisional (pending verification of final entry
list) competition schedule is now available for the 2008
Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships. The CWF
Congress and the Opening Ceremonies are scheduled for 4
December. Competition proper begins on 5 December with
four sessions and continues on 6 December with another
four. The final day of competition, on 7 December,
includes three sessions plus the Closing Ceremony.
