LIMASSOL, 16 November 2011 - The 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships featured a total of 365 lifters (295 men and 70 women) from 35 countries, according to data kindly provided by Gerhard Peya, Chairman of the Austrian Masters Committee.
According to the same data, in the men's competition Russia formed the largest team, with 44 lifters, closely followed by Germany, with 43. Japan had the third-largest contingent with 32 lifters. Australia and Germany had the largest women's teams, with 11 lifters each, followed by Great Britain in third place, with 8.

LIMASSOL, 5 November 2011 - Egor Kulikov of Russia, who won the gold medal in the 62kg category of the M70 age group, has been named Men's Grand Master of the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships.

LIMASSOL, 5 November 2011 - The Ukraine came out on top of the rankings of the official men's Team Results at the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships, which concluded here Saturday afternoon. Russia was second, Venezuela third, Germany fourth and Japan fifth amongst 15 countries fielding complete teams. Click below for the complete list

LIMASSOL, 5 November 2011 - The 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships concluded here Saturday afternoon with yet another World Record, by Russia's Vladimir Suschak in the Snatch of the +105kg category. The 39-year-old had a successful lift of 173kg to set the new record. This brings the total of World Records broken at these World Championships to 61.
Russia, meanhwile, topped the medals table, with 22 gold, eight silver and seven bronze medals, for a grand total of 37. This bettered Germany's record of 14 gold, although the Germans amassed the greatest number of medals in total, with 42. The Ukraine was third in the list, which includes 33 countries (of the total of 42 that took part in the Championships).

LIMASSOL, 5 November 2011 - Thirty-seven-year-old Nayden Rusev, lifting for Cyprus, earned a gold medal (the second for the host country in this competition) and set a new World Record, as the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships entered their final day, here Saturday. Rusev had a successful Snatch of 93kg in his third attempt in the 56kg category of his age group to break the World Record.
The World Championships conclude here Saturday afternoon.

LIMASSOL, 4 November 2011 - Italy's Andrea Rovatti, 43, set five new World Records, Friday evening here, at the last session of the penultimate day of the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships, with an exceptional performance in the +105kg category of his age group. Vasyl Martinyuk of the Ukraine also added three more World Records in the 105kg category, bringing the total at these Championships to 59.
The World Championships conclude here Saturday morning.

LIMASSOL, 4 November 2011 - Gennadii Iurkevych of the Ukraine broke three world records and Josue Farfan of Venezuela added another two, as the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships near their close in this city on the southern coast of Cyprus. The 41-year-old Ukranian set his records in the Snatch, Jerk and Total of the 77kg category in his age group, with lifts of 130kg, 158kg and 288kg respectively. Farfan, 43, set his records in the 56kg category, with consecutive Snatches of 99kg and 102kg.
The World Championships conclude here Saturday morning.

LIMASSOL, 3 November 2011 - Forty-five-year-old Mykhailo Kukharskyi of the Ukraine was the latest addition to the list of World Records broken at the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships, here, Thursday. Kukharskyi set the record in the Snatch of the 62kg category of his age group with a lift of 96kg.
The World Championships continue here Friday and conclude Saturday morning.

LIMASSOL, 2 November 2011 - One more World Record was broken, Wednesday, as the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships continued here for the fifth day. Russia's Mars Minigaleev, 55, had a successful third lift of 107kg in the Snatch of the men's 85kg category in his age group, to set the new record. Russia also continues to dominate the medals table, having reached 16 gold, but followed closely by Germany, which has 13.
The World Championships continue here Thursday and Friday, to conclude Saturday morning.

LIMASSOL, 1 November 2011 - Russians added two more gold medals to their collection, Monday, to retain the lead in the medals table of the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships. Germany remains in hot pursuit, just one gold behind.
The World Championships continue throughout the week and conclude on Saturday 5 November.

LIMASSOL, 1 November 2011 - Esmeralda Perdomo of Venezuela, who won the gold medal in the 53kg category of the W40 age group, has been named Women's Grand Master of the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships.

LIMASSOL, 31 October 2011 - Russia overtook Germany in the medals table, as the men's events of the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships got into full swing, here, Monday. Russian lifters have amassed eleven gold, three silver and one bronze medals after three days of competition in this city of the southern coast of Cyprus. A total of 26 countries have earned medals so far.
Meanwhile, Russia's 71-year-old Garri Geyman added two more World Records in the 56kg category of his age group, bringing the total in these championships thus far to 38.
The Championships continues with men's events throughout the week, concluding on Saturday 5 November.

LIMASSOL, 31 October 2011 - Australia topped the rankings of official women's Team Results at the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships. The women's events concluded here Sunday, but the competition continues throughout the week with men's categories. Germany was second, Great Britain third and the U.S.A. fourth amongst the countries fielding complete teams.

LIMASSOL, 30 October 2011 - The host country of Cyprus won a silver medal, Sunday, as the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships continued here. Denise Loizou-Offermann (click on photo, right, for higher resolution) lifted a total of 121kg to finish second in the 75kg category of her age group, behind Italy's Susana Perrone.
Several more World Records fell in the women's events of Sunday, including seven by Australia's Mary Macken and five by Hungary's Maria Takacs.
At the end of day two, Germany leads the medals table with nine gold, five silver and two bronze, followed by Russia with six gold and one silver.
Competition continues with men's events throughout the week in this city on the south coast of Cyprus, concluding on Saturday 5 November.

LIMASSOL, 29 October 2011 - Thirteen more World Records were set here, Saturday, as the opening day of the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships came to a close with women's categories. Mercedes Dickerson, 55, of the USA set seven of those in the +75kg category of her age group. Janis Kerr and Gwendolyn Leik, both of Great Britain, Marga Jorgensen of Denmark and Magda Roilidou of Greece also contributed to the World Records list.
The USA leads the medals table at the conclusion of Day 1 in this city on the south coast of Cyprus, with four gold and one silver; Germany follows with as many gold and two bronze medals (see table, right).

LIMASSOL, 29 October 2011 - Russia's 75-year-old Lev Nikiforov (photo, left) set the pace at the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships, here, setting World Records in the snatch, the jerk and the total of the +105kg category.
The competition opened Saturday in this coastal city of Cyprus with some 450 veteran lifters representing 49 countries from throughout the world. The event continues daily throughout next week and concludes on Saturday 5 November.
Previously on the opening day, failed World Record attempts had been made by Israel's Teddy Kaplan and Canada's Marcel Perron.

LIMASSOL, 29 October 2011 - Germany's Kurt Rosenberger, at 83 the oldest competitor at the 2011 World Masters Weightlifting Championships, completed a successful appearance on the opening day of the event, here today. The German lifter had six successful lifts, for a total of 91kg. in the 105kg category of his age group.
